GLBT

The Two-Spirit People

The more than 500 First Nations of North America varied greatly in their approach to their GLBT members. In many cultures, GLBTs were considered two-spirit people, with both the male and the female spirit. Some cultures considered the two-spirit state to endow the person with an increased social status; some considered the Two-Spirit person to be shamans. Some forbade marriage, least the link be broken.

This page contains items that may, for various reasons, be particularly meaningful to members the GLBT (Two Spirit) communities. Please enjoy yourself while browsing all our pages. (Please excuse its sparse nature, but this is a new page!)
