Shipibo
The Shipibo are an Amazonian Nation living on the tributaries of the Amazon River. Change is coming quickly to the Shipibo. As in the Nations of North America, the labor intensive arts hold little interest for the coming generations.
The works presented by Prairie House are from one specific village, and produced by the family of an artist personally known to us. The staff at Prairie House Gallery hopes that you will enjoy these intricate works of art, and use them as a stepping stone to learn more about the Shipibo and their world.
Among collectors of traditional ethnic arts, the Shipibo are best known for their intricate geometric and linear pottery designs, Secondarily, they are known for their embroidery and their traditional cloth designs.
