Wheat Weaving
Time is ending the art of wheat weaving, much as it has ended other traditional but labour-intensive crafts. Few people continue the tradition that was brought to the Dakotas by settlers from the British Isles. Prairie House Gallery is pleased to present the work of Helen Gilbert, who makes fine examples of this disappearing form of art work.

Small Cross: A wheat weaving by Helen. Guilbert. Ms Guilbert made this smaller, more delicate cross that matches her larger cross in its design and weave. At six inches, it is less costly to ship, and ideal for buyers outside the USA. (less postage!)- Artist: Helen Guilbert
Ms. Guilbert learned this traditional art from her mother and grandmother, who brought the knowledge from the British Isles. This artist controls the entire process of wheat weaving, from growing, harvesting, and selecting her own wheat to its final transformation into a work of art. The work is shown with the artist's authenticating tag attached.
