Glass-Bead Belt Buckle
Northern Cheyenne
Prairie House Gallery ™ acquired this beautiful hand-beaded buckle in the Cheyenne First Nation in the summer of 2006. The piece is unsigned.
It measures approximately 2.5" x 1.75", and has a backing of smoked hide.
This glass-bead barrette buckle shimmers when it catches the light. It has a traditional Cheyenne geometric design with Crow elements.
Several Native American/First Nations are noted for exquisite bead work. The Cheyenne, the Crow, and the Lakota rank high among bead workers of the Great Plains. This small buckle shows the tradition of geometric and symmetric patterns among both the Northern Cheyenne and their neighbors, the Crow.
